The Meeting of Judges will review the request of the Mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, regarding the decision whether or not his case will be considered in a court session.
Veliaj has filed a request for the annulment of the decision that imposed the security measure "prison arrest", requesting his release from the cell. For this reason, the Meeting of Judges has decided to consider his request and decide whether it will be examined in a court session.
We recall that in November of last year, the mayor's defense team filed an appeal with the Constitutional Court, requesting the annulment of the decisions taken by the Special Court, the Special Appeal and the Supreme Court, which have left in force the security measure "prison arrest" against him.
According to Veliaj, these decisions were issued in violation of the Constitution, as during the process of determining the security measure, the right to a fair legal process, the principle of proportionality of the measure, and the presumption of innocence were violated.
