The Electoral College decided to repeal a decision of the State Election Commissioner and order him to register citizen Gjergji Nika as an independent candidate for Mayor, proposed by voters, for the Municipality of Vlora.
The CEC and the KAS excluded Nika from the race for the local by-elections of November 9, 2025. He set the Electoral College in motion and the five judges unanimously decided to grant him the right to register as a candidate for the Municipality of Vlora. After the decision, Nika wrote on Facebook that justice won over political pressures.
"Today, the Electoral College, with a unanimous 5–0 decision, overturned the decisions of the CEC and the KAS, sealing my right to run as an independent candidate in the November 9, 2025 elections for the Municipality of Vlora. This decision comes after numerous pressures and open attempts by major parties to prevent an independent voice in the race. But justice spoke clearly: no one can stop the free will of citizens," he wrote on FB.
