The Albanian Parliament is holding two plenary sessions today, with a busy agenda and expected political debates. At the center of attention is the request of the Democratic Party deputies for the dismissal of the Speaker of the Parliament, Niko Peleshi, whom the opposition accuses of violating the Constitution and the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament.
The debate on this issue is expected to start at 10:00 and according to parliamentary sources, the session may be accompanied by fierce discussions between the majority and the opposition. This is the first time that such a request for the dismissal of the Speaker of the Assembly has been included in the agenda in this legislature.
After the end of the political debate, the second plenary session of the day is expected to begin at 11:30, which will focus on the reports of several independent institutions before the Assembly. The first to take the floor is the President of the High Prosecutorial Council, Mirela Bogdani, who was unable to report in the previous session.
Next, the deputies will review the annual report for 2024 of the People's Advocate, Erinda Ballanca. Also included in the agenda are presentations of reports by the Commissioner for Civil Service Supervision, Albanian Radio Television (RTSH), Audiovisual Media Authority (AMA) and the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT).
