The leader of the Democratic Party, Sali Berisha, has announced that the DP will not support Niko Peleshi's candidacy for speaker of the Albanian Parliament.
In a statement to the media before the start of the first session of the new legislature, Berisha said that the name proposed by Prime Minister Edi Rama is not acceptable to the opposition. “We will not vote for it. If you vote for Pelesh, it is the same as voting for his gang in Korça,” he declared.
Also asked if the DP will boycott the early elections in the Municipality of Tirana, Berisha said that the boycott is an option and can be used as a “weapon and form”, even “perhaps the easiest form”. He added that he has different strategies for the future and cannot make his position clear at the moment.
