Agron Shehaj sees the new elections for the municipality of Tirana as a chance to defeat Rama. After the long summer holidays, the MP from the Mundësia party has calculated with pencil and paper how the opposition can win the elections for Tirana.
"Today we have the Socialist Party, which in the last elections in the Municipality of Tirana received about 49% of the votes. It has almost the majority. The Democratic Party in opposition has about 32% of the votes. After the DP, we are Moneștêsia with about 6% of the votes. And then 3%, 3%, and so on.
Now, if the DP decides to nominate a member of the DP, a representative of the DP, the difference and the chances that the DP will win are 49% to 32%. It is almost impossible! The only possibility that the opposition has is for the entire opposition to find a name that unites them. An external name. Not a member of the DP. Not a member of the Opportunity Party or other parties. But a name that enjoys the respect of society, that is uncontroversial, that is unblemished, that has shown in life that it has done something. And only with such a candidate, with an excellent candidate, can we win against the Socialist Party.” – said Shehaj.
But so many years in parliament and politics have not helped Agron Shehaj understand that politics (especially in Albania) is not mathematics, but a bargain that is otherwise called "agreement" in public. The DP and the opposition are in their worst day today, not because they do not have calculators to calculate how many votes are needed and how votes can be maximized. The truth is that political bargains and the comfort of being in the opposition are the factors that hold the rotation hostage.
