The opposition's sixth national protest took place on the day, 34 years ago, when the Democratic Party won the first multiparty elections. As on that day in March 1992, Sali Berisha was at the head of the rally today. Only this time he did not address his supporters and, instead of speaking, he occasionally put on a gas mask to protect himself from the police reaction.
Almost with the same scenario as the previous protests, today's was also accompanied by the throwing of fireworks and Molotov cocktails, not sparing even the Ministry of Interior. The German flag was added to the protest choreography today, alongside those of the DP and the EU. Probably a sign that when a German official crosses the threshold of the DP, the latter adds the flag of the respective country to its necklace of support.
Meanwhile, continuing their march on the boulevard, the police fence strongly protected the SP headquarters, which escaped the wrath of the protesters who managed to burn a police car. The protesters continued from the SP headquarters to the Police Directorate and then the route continued from Wilson Square to RTSH, where the police had set up a protective cordon at the exit of the road towards the bridge.
Near the AKSHI building, protesters and police clashed again amid Molotov cocktails and tear gas. The attempt to attack the Parliament failed, except for physical clashes between some DP deputies and the police.
The protest ended with a speech by Sali Berisha at the DP headquarters, where, as always, the end of the Rama government was announced.
