Bad weather has swept across Albania in recent days, causing major flooding and significant material damage. Hundreds of hectares of land have been submerged, while the situation remains tense in several regions, especially in the Fier-Vlora areas.
According to the latest reports, the Seman River has reached critical levels, flooding large areas. Experts warn that if the rainfall continues, the situation could escalate and cause further problems for residents.
Situation in the main regions:
Berat: The Osum River has caused flooding that has damaged the drinking water network. The Dimal Municipality has announced that the water is not drinkable and Emergency teams are working to clean up the mud and water after the river receded. In most of the Velabisht Unit, the waters on agricultural lands are gradually receding.
Lezha: Rainfall and water levels have started to decrease. In Kurbin, work continues to reinforce the Drojë River embankment, while in Tale, the damaged embankment is being reinforced. The Tale dam has been put into operation, lowering the water level by about 10 cm overnight.
Mirditë: Rainfall continues with intensity, while two homes remain under monitoring due to the risk of landslides. Dams are operating at full capacity, the levels of the Drin and Mat rivers remain within normal limits.
Fier-Vlora: The situation remains critical, especially on the Seman River, where water has overflowed its bed in several areas, within the embankments.
Vjosa and Shkumbin: The situation is calmer, with water levels gradually falling, including the Mifoli bridge.
The Regional Drainage Board structures and Irrigation Directorates are continuously monitoring the embankments and river flows. So far, there are no reports of damage to critical infrastructure, while coordination of the situation continues continuously.
