Police officer Novruz Cenalia will be honored today with the title "Martyr of the Homeland", a high appreciation for his sacrifice in the line of duty, two years after the tragic event that shocked public opinion in the country.
Cenalia was killed on the afternoon of May 13, 2024, while on duty, after stopping a vehicle and asking the driver to slow down on the road. The perpetrator, Azgan Mrnica, reacted with a gunshot, shooting the police officer to death, causing a serious incident that brought strong reactions from institutions and citizens.
The incident was considered a serious attack on the state uniform and public order, while the killing of the officer sparked widespread debate over the safety of police officers while on duty.
