SPAK requested a 3-year prison sentence for the former acting mayor of Tropoja Municipality, Zyra Islamaj, for the criminal offense of passive corruption. The former official will not go to detention, after prosecutor Bledar Maksuti requested that the prison sentence be suspended and the defendant be placed on probation for 4 years.
For businessman Rrok Gega, a sentence of 1 year in prison was requested and then conversion to probation for two years. The businessman is also accused of corruption. According to him, the former deputy mayor was accused of a tender for the construction of a bridge in the village of Luzhe in Tropoja, where the mayor had personal interests.
The prosecution says that Islamaj intervened with the builder so that the bridge, which was not foreseen in the tender, would be built near her sister's house. The case was reported by DP deputies. The announcement of the decision is expected at the next session.
