As VNA reported a day ago, the Commission for the Protection of Judges has approved additional security measures for Judge Irena Gjoka. In addition to the Republic Guard protection for SPAK judges and prosecutors, she will also be accompanied by personnel from the Special Protection Unit.
This commission includes the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Justice, representatives of the High Judicial Council, the head of the Special Court Erjon Bani, as well as State Police officials.
Authorities have not made public details about the threats or the level of risk, keeping the information secret, despite media interest in clarification.
Judge Gjoka has previously been under state protection, both due to her duties at the Special Court and due to the sensitive cases she has handled, including the “Partizani” case. At various times, she has been placed under increased security measures due to risk assessments.
Even before, other figures in the justice system have benefited from special state protection, including judges and prosecutors involved in important cases, as well as documented cases of threats or attacks against them.
Currently, a significant portion of persons under state protection are SPAK prosecutors, as well as several prosecutors in Elbasan, some of whom have been transferred for security reasons.
