Former socialist MP Plarent Ndreca, who is being tried in the Special Court of Appeal on charges of violating equality in tenders, but is also defending the mayor of Tirana, Erion Veliaj, as the defendant, decided to participate in a process in the Special Appeal related to the latter and to "abandon" the court session in his case.
The court session where Ndreca is being tried for violating equality in tenders when he was Secretary General of the Ministry of Interior, was postponed after he appeared in the Special Appeal as a defense attorney chosen by Mayor Veliaj. The latter, through a request filed in the Appeal, challenged an interim decision of the GJKKO to suspend the terms of detention. Ermal Yzeiraj, the lawyer of the former socialist MP, was not present at the session against Ndreca and others, so the process was postponed to May 19. Plarent Ndreca is accused in connection with the tender for the reconstruction of several police stations in the country. The investigation began after a report made by the Supreme State Audit, where after the audit, violations were found for the tenders related to the reconstruction of police station no. 4 in Tirana and those in Vlora, Pogradec and Mirdita.
