The Supreme Court has put an end to the legal battle of former police chief Gledis Nano with the Council of Ministers and the Ministry of Internal Affairs, definitively ruling in his favor and leaving in force the obligation for the state to pay him compensation, following his dismissal from office.
According to the decision, the Supreme Court also dismissed the appeal filed by the government and the Ministry of Interior, which did not accept the decisions of other levels of the judiciary that upheld Nano's dismissal almost 11 months after he had assumed the position of head of the State Police.
Nano considered his dismissal from office by the then Prime Minister and Minister, Blendi Çuçi, illegal, and appealed to the court. Other levels of the judiciary had also ruled in his favor.
At the heart of the matter was Nano's request to repeal Decision No. 580, dated 31.08.2022 of the Council of Ministers, as well as their obligation to treat him with salary until the end of the 5-year mandate, or to systematize him in the structures of the State Police or other functions.
