The Constitutional Court has begun a meeting of judges who are reviewing, based on documents, the request of Evis Berber, the former head of the Albanian Road Authority.
In addition to challenging the security measure, Berberi is also seeking to declare the communications discovered on his mobile phones unusable. These communications served to initiate two criminal cases: against former Deputy Prime Minister Belinda Balluku and against the mayor of Shkodra, Benet Beci.
The Constitutional Court is expected to announce its verdict today and, if Berber's request is accepted, the decision could have a direct impact on the case against Balluk.
The former number two in the government is under investigation for abuses with road tenders. The majority rejected SPAK's request for a warrant for her arrest, while two security measures are in force against Balluk: suspension from exercising his functions and a ban on leaving the country.
