The Larissa Court has approved the request filed by Pano Ruçi for the exhumation of the body of his son, Denis Ruçi, who lost his life in the tragic Tempi railway accident in Greece. The court's decision comes within the framework of a preliminary investigation, which aims to conduct DNA and toxicological analyses on the victim's body.
This decision is the result of continuous pressure from the families of the victims of the tragedy, who for months have been demanding a full clarification of the causes of their relatives' deaths and the legal responsibility of those responsible.
On September 25, a supplementary memorandum signed by dozens of victims' families was submitted to the Larissa Court of Appeal. This memorandum, which follows another submitted on September 15, included among its main demands the exhumation of Denis Ruçi's body, as well as the improvement of the charges against the two executives of the Hellenic Train company. Following this process, other family members have also submitted similar requests for the exhumation of the bodies of their loved ones, including Pavlos Aslanidis for his son Dimitris on September 24 and Maria Karystianou for her daughter Martha on September 25.
Following the court's decision, Pano Ruçi reacted publicly, emphasizing that this measure is not his main goal, but a necessary step to achieve a full clarification of the incident. "This is not what I want," he declared, adding that he will continue the hunger strike that has been going on for days.
In a statement to OPEN television, from the monument to the Unknown Soldier, Ruçi emphasized that he is not requesting the exhumation only for identification, but also to ensure the performance of toxicological analyses and all necessary administrative procedures, which will help in accurately determining the causes of his son's death.
