Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei said today regarding the deployment of a US aircraft carrier off the coast of his country that "more dangerous than a warship is the weapon that can send it to the bottom of the sea."
Khamenei, speaking under a banner that read "Whoever attacks you, respond in kind," said the US president talks about the American military as the strongest in the world, but it can be hit so hard that it can't get up again.
"He says our army is the strongest in the world. The strongest army in the world can sometimes be hit so hard that it can't get up again. You won't be able to destroy the Islamic Republic either," he said.
Khamenei's comments come as crucial talks between Tehran and Washington to resolve a long-running dispute over Iran's nuclear program begin today, with little sign of a compromise.
US envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner will take part in the negotiations, which are being brokered by Oman, a source familiar with the matter told Reuters, along with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi.
