While positive developments are reported between the US and Iran towards reaching an agreement aimed at ending the conflict in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump has warned of serious consequences if an agreement is not reached.
In a reaction published on the Truth Social platform, Trump stated that if Iran accepts the agreement reached, military operations will be halted and the Strait of Hormuz will be reopened to international traffic.
He added that, on the contrary, if Tehran withdraws from the agreement, airstrikes will resume with greater intensity than before.
"Assuming Iran accepts what has been agreed upon, the operation will be over and the Strait of Hormuz will be opened. If not, the bombing will resume and will be much more intense," Trump was quoted as saying.
Earlier, Axios reported that the US and Iran are very close to an agreement to end the war and establish a framework for negotiations on the Iranian nuclear program.
According to reports, Washington expects a response from Tehran within 48 hours on several key issues, while this is considered the greatest progress between the parties since the start of the conflict.
