US President Donald Trump has once again publicly criticized Pope Leo XIV, accusing him of putting Catholic believers around the world at risk.
In a statement to Salem News, Trump said that the Holy Father appears to consider acceptable the possibility of Iran possessing nuclear weapons, an idea he strongly opposes.
“The Pope is putting a lot of Catholics and a lot of people at risk,” Trump said. “He would rather talk about how it would be acceptable for Iran to have nuclear weapons. I don’t think that’s a good thing.”
These statements are expected to spark new debates, especially at a time when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio is scheduled to visit the Vatican.
