The United States does not want and will not use force to take over Greenland, the self-governing Danish island that the US has deemed vital to its national security. This was the message of US President Donald Trump during his speech at the World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland.
During his speech, Trump criticized the European Union countries, stating that the 27-member Union, according to him, is not moving in the right direction, especially due to immigration policies, which he described as destructive for the West.
“Greenland is a vast territory, almost entirely uninhabited and undeveloped, undefended, in a key strategic location between the United States, Russia, and China. There is only one clear fact: no nation or group of nations is capable of securing Greenland except the United States. That is why I am calling for immediate negotiations to discuss again the purchase of Greenland by the United States, just as we have acquired many other territories throughout our history, as have many European nations. We may not achieve anything unless we use force to take this territory, frankly we would be unstoppable, but I will not do such a thing.”
Trump also stated that the United States plans to build the largest air defense system in Greenland, a version of "Iron Dome", justifying the acquisition of this territory as a reward for the contribution that Washington has made to NATO, especially during his administration.
“We give so much and get so little in return. I have been a critic of NATO for many years, yet I have done more to help NATO than any other president to date. NATO would not exist if I had not been involved in my first term. I inherited a war, a disaster – I am talking about Ukraine. We are thousands of miles apart, separated by a giant ocean, and this is a war that should never have started and would not have started if the 2020 US presidential election had not been rigged.”
In conclusion, the US President stated that the United States is working with both Russia and Ukraine to end the war in Ukraine, the most violent conflict in Europe since World War II.
