Tensions in the Middle East continue to rise, as the United States has sent about 2,200 additional troops to the region as part of operations against Iran. According to reports, several warships accompanied by about 20 fighter jets have also been involved in the operation. The strike group is expected to be involved in an operation to take control of the Iranian island of Kharg in the Persian Gulf, a strategic point from which about 80% of Iran's oil exports are made.
The development comes on the 14th day of the conflict in the Middle East, where the United States and Israel have aligned themselves as allies against Iran. Meanwhile, NATO defense forces have neutralized another ballistic missile that entered Turkish airspace, bringing to three the number of missiles intercepted since the beginning of the conflict.
Also in Tehran, a powerful explosion was reported in a square where the “Quds Day” event, an annual demonstration in support of the Palestinian cause, is traditionally held.
