US Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth has fired the head of the Pentagon's National Intelligence Agency, just weeks after he clashed with the White House over a report on US strikes on Iran, the BBC reports.
Senior General Jeffery Kruse will no longer lead the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), while two other high-ranking military commanders have also been removed from their posts at the Pentagon, according to internal sources.
The Department of Defense has not yet provided an official explanation regarding these dismissals.
In June, President Donald Trump strongly disputed a leaked DIA report that suggested the strikes on Iran had only temporarily delayed progress on Iran's nuclear program by several months. The White House called the report "totally inaccurate."
Trump declared that Iran's nuclear facilities had been "totally destroyed" and accused the media of trying to undermine one of the most successful military operations in history.
