The President of the European Parliament, Roberta Metsola, has announced that she has taken the decision to ban the entry of all diplomatic personnel and any representative of the Islamic Republic of Iran to all premises of the European Parliament.
The decision was made public through a post on social media, where Metsola emphasizes that the measure comes in support of the Iranian people, who, according to her, are continuing to fight courageously for their rights and freedom.
"As the courageous people of Iran continue their fight for rights and freedom, today I decided to ban entry to all European Parliament premises to all diplomatic personnel and any other representatives of the Islamic Republic of Iran," Metsola wrote.
She adds that the European Parliament will not contribute to the legitimization of a regime, which according to her is kept in power through torture, repression and murder.
The decision marks a strong political stance by the European institution towards the Iranian regime and comes at a time of heightened international tensions over human rights violations in Iran.
