Guido Crosetto, Italy's defense minister, has announced that he is returning to Rome after being stranded in Dubai with his family during the US and Israeli attacks on Iran.
"I'm returning to Italy," he wrote on the social network X, explaining that he will travel on a military plane, but at his own expense. According to him, the payment will be three times higher than the fare provided for guests on state flights, to avoid any controversy.
However, there has been no shortage of controversy. The 5 Star Movement has announced a parliamentary interpellation on the case, while former general Roberto Vannacci has taken to social media to ironize. "Save soldier Crosetto. A special operation has begun to extract Crosetto: the only defense minister to go on vacation to a war zone without knowing it," he wrote.
Crosetto has announced that he will return to Italy alone. "To avoid exposing other people who may be traveling with me to further risks in the current conditions," he stressed, adding that his family will remain in Dubai, having been assured that there are no direct risks for them or for other Italian and foreign citizens, apart from incidental risks.
The Minister emphasized that he is continuing to work in coordination with the crisis unit at the Italian Foreign Ministry to guarantee a quick and safe solution for citizens.
