Former Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad was reportedly killed in an airstrike carried out by the United States and Israel on Iranian territory on Sunday.
According to foreign media, the attack hit the area where his residence in Tehran was located and it is said that he died there along with several of his bodyguards. Ahmadinejad served as president of Iran from 2005 to 2013, a period in which he was known for his strong confrontational stances towards the West and for the numerous clashes over the Iranian nuclear program.
Reports of Ahmadinejad's death come as the conflict between Iran, the United States and Israel has escalated, including the death of Iranian Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in the same attacks.
