King Charles III delivered a historic speech to the United States Congress, where he praised the United States as one of the main pillars of democracy and emphasized the importance of the partnership between the two countries.
"Therefore, I come here today with the highest respect for the United States Congress, this citadel of democracy, created to represent the voice of all the American people and to advance sacred rights and freedoms," he said.
During his speech, the British monarch underlined the deep respect and friendship of the British people towards the American one, describing the alliance between the two countries as essential in facing global challenges. He stressed that, in an increasingly uncertain and dangerous world, cooperation between allies is indispensable and cannot be based only on the achievements of the past. "
Our common values prevail", said the King, emphasizing that although "we are in a more unstable and dangerous era" than in 1991, the challenges we face are "too great for a single nation to face".
King Charles III also recalled the visit of his mother, Queen Elizabeth II, who addressed the same hall in 1991, emphasizing the continued strong relationship between the United Kingdom and the United States.
In his speech, he also mentioned the position of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, emphasizing that the partnership between the two countries remains indispensable and must be further strengthened in the face of common global challenges.
