A Polish influencer has managed to raise more than 250 million zlotys (over £50 million) for a foundation that helps children with cancer, after a non-stop webcast that lasted nine days.
YouTube star Piotr Hancke, known to his followers as Latwogang, carried out this initiative by broadcasting live from an apartment in Warsaw.
The broadcast, which ended on Sunday, was supported by several well-known international figures, including Coldplay singer Chris Martin, Polish goalkeeper Wojciech Szczęsny and young Spanish football talent Lamine Yamal.
Yamal appeared in a video by Szczęsny to support the campaign, which was in aid of the Polish Cancer Fighters Foundation (CFF).
Throughout the broadcast, the 23-year-old repeatedly listened to a charity song recorded by Polish rapper Bedoes 2115. The song, written as a "diss track" against cancer, also includes the voice of a child who is battling the disease.
Chris Martin connected via video call and performed a short musical excerpt, also apologizing for his attempt to speak in Polish.
Many other sports and social media figures in Poland also participated in the initiative. Footballer Robert Lewandowski posted a TikTok video of himself dancing to the campaign song and later wrote on Instagram that he was "proud to be Polish."
Some of the famous guests shaved their heads in solidarity with cancer patients, while Latwogang himself did the same during the broadcast.
At its peak, the broadcast was watched simultaneously by an estimated 1.4 million people. So far, the foundation has confirmed that more than £52 million has been raised, more than triple the previous world record for a charity livestream.
The foundation has also opened a special page to transparently publish the use of funds, emphasizing that every contribution will turn into real help for children who fight cancer every day.
