The Palestinian Prisoners Association said Israeli forces have carried out more than 19,000 arrests in the occupied West Bank, including East Jerusalem, since the start of the Gaza war 700 days ago. According to a statement published by the Wafa news agency, this figure does not include arrests in the Gaza Strip itself, where the number is believed to be in the thousands.
Israeli authorities have classified 2,662 detainees from Gaza as “unlawful combatants.” However, human rights organizations warn that the real number of detainees could be significantly higher due to cases of enforced disappearance. Since October 2023, at least 585 women and 1,550 children have been arrested in the occupied territories. The report also states that 77 Palestinians have died in Israeli custody during this period, including 46 from Gaza.
According to official sources, the bodies of 74 of the deceased detainees continue to be held by Israeli authorities, along with the bodies of at least 85 other prisoners, who have not been returned to their families.
This report highlights the tense situation and human rights situation in the occupied Palestinian territories and is expected to spark international debate on Israel's actions and treatment of Palestinian prisoners.
