Former US Vice President Kamala Harris has left open the possibility of running for president again in 2028.
The statement was made during an event organized by a civil rights group, where Harris answered a direct question about her future political plans.
She was speaking at a rally for the National Action Network, an organization founded by Reverend Al Sharpton, in New York. During the discussion, when asked if she intended to run for the White House again, Harris said, "Maybe. I'm thinking about it," drawing cheers and applause from the audience.
She added that any potential decision would depend on assessing who is the most suitable person to lead the United States in 2028.
Harris served as vice president in Joe Biden's administration and was the Democratic nominee for president in 2024, losing to Donald Trump, who won both the popular vote and the Electoral College. She previously served as a U.S. senator and attorney general of California, and ran unsuccessfully for the Democratic nomination in 2020.
A possible candidacy in 2028 could face challenges within the Democratic Party, at a time when polls show that some voters are looking for new leadership figures after the 2024 defeat.
