Talks between Iran and the United States, which began this afternoon at the political level, have entered a new phase involving experts and technicians from both sides, the Iranian news agency IRNA reported.
According to her, specialized commissions are participating in the negotiations and technical meetings will continue to finalize the issues that still remain open. During the talks, Iran has insisted on a complete ceasefire in Lebanon.
On the other hand, the United States has agreed to launch technical studies on mechanisms for releasing frozen Iranian assets. However, according to IRNA, both sides have agreed that this issue requires more detailed discussions at the expert level.
Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Kazem Gharibabadi, part of Tehran's delegation in talks with Washington in Islamabad, stated that Iran is prepared for any possible development.
"Iran is ready for any scenario that may result from these talks, be it military and defense, or negotiations," Gharibabadi said, according to the Tasnim news agency. He added that he hopes for "positive conclusions," emphasizing the seriousness of the Iranian delegation and, according to him, "Iran's strong position."
At the same time, another member of the Iranian delegation, Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baghaei, announced that the exchange of messages between the parties had started the previous night, after the delegations arrived in Islamabad. He stressed that Tehran has called for a complete ceasefire between Iran and the US-Israeli axis, while adding that Iran is also in contact with Lebanon to verify whether a complete ceasefire has actually been implemented there as well.
In parallel with the negotiations, there have been clashes of statements regarding the situation in the Strait of Hormuz. A US official, quoted by Axios journalist Barak Ravid on the X network, said that the United States has not received any threat from Iran to attack US Navy ships that may pass through this strategic corridor.
The statement comes after several Iranian media outlets reported that Tehran had warned Washington of possible retaliation against American ships attempting to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.
Separately, a senior Iranian military official has dismissed an Axios report that several US ships have already passed through the Strait of Hormuz. According to Iranian state broadcaster IRIB, the official categorically denied that US ships have passed through the strait.
