Israel has entered the depths of Gaza in pursuit of the Hamas organization and its bases, to achieve complete defeat and the release of the hostages it took two years ago.
At least 40 people are reported to have been killed during today's action according to the Civil Defense service throughout the Gaza Strip.
The attacks were concentrated in the area between Rafah and Khan Yunis, where Hamas is believed to have underground bases with tunnels.
The Civil Defense Service announced that 40 people were killed, 22 of them in an airstrike on a warehouse where dozens of people, including children, were sheltering near the Fira market, in the eastern sector of Gaza City.
Many bodies, including minors, were reportedly pulled from the rubble in the market area, according to an AFP journalist. When asked by the French News Agency, the Israeli military (IDF) responded that it would be informed.
According to UN estimates, one million people lived in Gaza City and its environs at the end of August. According to the Israeli military, over 600,000 people have fled the area.
