Erdogan calls on world leaders to stand strongly with Palestine at UN

"Humanity in the last century has not witnessed a crime as brutal as the Israeli genocide in Gaza," Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stressed.

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, speaking before the UN General Assembly on Tuesday, called on all world leaders to stand strongly with the oppressed Palestinians in the name of humanity.

"Today we are here at this rostrum to speak on behalf of the Palestinian people, whose voice is trying to be silenced, together with our citizens," Erdoğan said.

He thanked all the states that have so far recognized Palestine and called on those that have not yet done so "to act without delay."

Erdoğan stressed that Israel has been killing a child every hour in Gaza for 23 months: "These are not just numbers, they are innocent people."

"Every day, 2.5 million Gazans, in a territory of 365 square kilometers, are displaced and forced to relocate elsewhere," he added.

He noted that “innocent children, only two or three years old, without arms or legs, are a common sight in Gaza today.”

"Humanity has not witnessed a crime as brutal as the Israeli genocide in Gaza in the last century," Erdoğan stressed.

“If a thorn pricks a child in the hand, the parent’s heart aches. But in Gaza, children have body parts amputated without anesthesia. This is the lowest point of humanity,” he said, asking: “What conscience can tolerate this, what conscience can remain silent? Can there be peace in a world where children die of hunger and lack of medicine?”

Erdogan said that the Israeli occupation, under the pretext of the events of October 7, 2023, is not a war against terrorism, but a "policy of expulsion, persecution, genocide and mass massacres."

"Israel is not limited to Gaza and the West Bank; attacks on Syria, Iran, Yemen and Lebanon also threaten regional peace," he warned.

He added that "there is no war in Gaza," because the Israeli military uses the most deadly modern weapons against innocent civilians.

The Turkish president said Israel had "completely lost control" after the attack on Qatar earlier this month, which he said was proof that Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu "has no intention of seeking peace or releasing the hostages."

Erdoğan added that the Israeli administration, obsessed with what it calls the "promised land," undermines regional peace and the common achievements of humanity with its expansionist policy.

He also stressed that Israeli attacks have suppressed basic human rights, those of women and children, as well as freedom of expression, protest, equality and justice.

He concluded by saying that the perpetrators of genocide must be held accountable under international law, “which will undoubtedly happen.”
