Hunter Biden, the son of former US President Joe Biden, has said he will not apologize to First Lady Melania Trump for a controversial comment about her alleged affair with Jeffrey Epstein. The comments were made during an interview with journalist Andrew Callaghan for Channel 5, ABC News reports.
"That's not going to happen," Hunter Biden said in harsh words when asked if he would retract statements he made regarding the acquaintance between Melania Trump and her husband, former President Donald Trump, through Epstein - a wealthy financier and convicted sex abuser who died in prison in 2019.
Biden's statement sparked intense controversy in early August when he alleged that Epstein had been the go-between for the Trump couple. This was immediately denied by the First Lady's legal representatives. In an official letter, her lawyer called the accusation "completely false and extremely provocative," warning of lawsuits if Hunter did not issue a public apology.
In a recent interview, Hunter Biden insisted on his stance, citing various sources, including a book by author Michael Wolff, a prominent Trump biographer, which has described the close ties between Epstein and the former president. “Epstein and Trump knew each other well, they spent an incredible amount of time together,” Biden said.
Donald Trump, on the other hand, has called Wolff "a third-rate journalist" and has dismissed much of the content written about him and his family.
At the end of the interview, Hunter Biden offered a defiant comment: “If they want a hearing to clarify the nature of the relationship with Jeffrey Epstein — if the president and the first lady want to do that — I’m more than happy to provide them with a platform to do that.”
The event has attracted great public attention and could lead to legal confrontation between the Biden and Trump families.
