US First Lady Melania Trump has threatened to sue Hunter Biden for more than $1 billion, following his claims that she was introduced to Donald Trump by convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. In a recent interview with filmmaker Andrew Callaghan, the president's son Joe Biden alluded to close ties between Donald Trump and Epstein, suggesting that the latter played a role in the presidential couple's first meeting.
Melania Trump's lawyers have called the statement "false, defamatory and contemptuous," warning that if Hunter Biden does not immediately retract the claim and publicly apologize, he will face a lawsuit for financial damages.
Biden's claim appears to be based on a comment by journalist Michael Wolff for the Daily Beast, an article that was retracted after a legal letter from Melania Trump's side. According to a 2016 Harper's Bazaar profile, Melania met Donald Trump at a party hosted by a modeling agency in November 1998, and there is no official evidence linking this to Epstein.
The incident comes at a time when pressure on authorities to release unpublished documents in the Epstein case is growing, while Trump has promised to make them public if he is re-elected president.
