The Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF) and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) have filed a communication under Article 15 with the International Criminal Court (ICC), seeking an investigation into the killing of Al Jazeera journalist Anas Al-Sharif and four of his colleagues by Israel on August 10. The event has been described as a “pure criminal act and war crime.”
According to the announcement on the HRF website, the foundation has investigated the chain of command and operational decisions that led to Al-Sharif's killing, while PCHR has also documented in detail the cases of other Al Jazeera journalists killed in Gaza, including Hussam Shabat, Ismail Al-Ghoul, Ahmed Al-Louh, Hamza Wael Al-Dahdouh and Samer Abu Daqa.
The HRF investigation has also identified the individuals involved in the attack that also killed journalists Mohammed Qreiqeh, Ibrahim Zaher, Mohammed Noufal, and Moamen Aliwa.
Among the senior Israeli military officials named in the dossier are Chief of General Staff Eyal Zamir, Air Force Commander Tomer Bar and Southern Command Commander Yaniv Asor. At the top of the responsibility, according to HRF, lies Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
In addition to the military leadership, HRF has also named Avichay Adraee, a member of the Arab Media Division of the Israeli Army Spokesperson's Unit, who is accused of an ongoing smear campaign against Al-Sharif, creating "public approval" for his assassination through baseless claims linking him to Hamas.
