French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday expressed his deep concern over Israel's plans to accelerate military operations in Gaza, calling them "a catastrophe waiting to happen." He proposed the creation of an international coalition under a United Nations mandate to stabilize the situation in the region.
Last week, Israel's security cabinet approved a plan to seize control of Gaza City, expanding the military campaign in the devastated Palestinian territory. The decision has drawn widespread criticism both at home and abroad.
"The announcement of the expansion of operations in Gaza City and the Mawasi camps, as well as a reoccupation, warns of a catastrophe with unprecedented consequences and a path towards an endless war," Macron declared through his office.
He also stressed that "the Israeli hostages and the people of Gaza will remain the main victims of this strategy."
