Minneapolis police have provided more details regarding the attack the day before at a Catholic school, where a 23-year-old opened fire and left two children, ages 8 and 10, dead, while 18 others were seriously injured.
According to authorities, Robin Westman was obsessed with the idea of killing children.
Minnesota's acting attorney, Joseph Thompson, spoke candidly about the young man's found notes, saying they provide insight into his plans, mental state and hatred towards various groups.
He says the 23-year-old seemed to hate everyone and that there was one group he idolized, other school shooters and mass murderers.
"Reading them, one thing is clear, and it will be difficult to hear, but it is important to the question of why this happened: more than anything else, the perpetrator wanted to kill children," he told the media.
"The shooter was obsessed with the idea of killing children," he stressed.
An FBI agent at the press conference said Westman was not on any watch lists before the attack.
Police Chief O'Hara adds that he is not aware of any mental health diagnosis or treatment the attacker was receiving.
O'Hara said the attacker had previously attended mass at the Catholic church and also went to the Evangelization Catholic School.
"So there is definitely a connection between the attacker and this particular parish," says O'Hara.
The police chief adds that authorities have not yet identified any complaints or incidents that may have prompted the attacker to target this church.
