The Houthi rebel group in Yemen has reported that Israeli forces have launched an airstrike on the capital Sana'a this afternoon (Thursday), four days after previous bombings that left 10 dead.
"Israeli aggression in the capital Sana'a," the Houthi group's Al-Masirah television reported, without giving further details.
According to information provided by Israeli military (IDF) sources, it is learned that the Minister of Defense and the Chief of Staff of the Houthi forces may have been killed during the attack.
The Israeli strikes came in response to a series of ballistic missiles fired from Yemeni territory towards Israel, for which Houthi rebels have claimed responsibility. The Israeli military confirmed that it struck several military targets in Sana'a, including the presidential palace and a fuel depot.
According to Israeli media reports, senior political figures in the Houthi movement were directly targeted in these strikes. Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz and IDF Chief of Staff Major General Eyal Zamir are said to have coordinated the operation with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu before the attack.
"As we have warned the terrorist Houthi regime in Yemen: After the plague of darkness, comes the plague of the firstborn," Minister Katz declared, referring to a biblical passage and suggesting a direct target for the Houthi political leadership.
Just a day earlier, Houthi rebels claimed another rocket attack on Israel, while Israeli forces announced they had intercepted and neutralized a missile launched from Yemen.
The situation in the region remains highly tense, as clashes between Israel and Iranian-backed rebels are intensifying.
