Demi Moore has come to the defense of Emma Heming Willis, Bruce Willis' wife, following criticism she received following the announcement that the Die Hard star, who suffers from a progressive form of dementia, has moved into a home separate from the rest of the family.
In a recent interview with Oprah Winfrey's The Oprah Podcast, the Oscar-nominated actress for The Substance opened up about her ex-husband's diagnosis and how the family is coping. She said she feels "a deep compassion for" Heming, who has become Bruce's primary caregiver.
"I have a lot of compassion for Emma. She's a young woman," Demi told Oprah. "Nobody could have predicted how this situation would evolve, and she's done an incredible job of committing to following the right path."
Moore also added that "there is no blueprint for how to deal with a situation like this. A lot of responsibility has fallen on Emma, who has had to figure out how to manage everything on her own. And the most beautiful thing - which she also talks about in her latest book - is the awareness of how essential it is for those who care for others to not forget to take care of themselves. If you don't take the time to make sure you yourself are okay, you can't be there for anyone else."
In March 2022, Willis' family announced his retirement from filmmaking after an initial diagnosis of aphasia, which then progressively worsened.
Emma Heming's book, titled The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope and Yourself on the Caregiving Path, will be published on September 9.
