Donald Trump is sending special envoy Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner, the US president's son-in-law, to Pakistan for talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi, CNN reported today, citing two US government officials.
A Pakistani government source earlier said that Araghchi is expected to arrive in Islamabad tonight, along with a small delegation, and that peace talks with the United States could take place. The source did not specify with whom the Iranian top diplomat is scheduled to meet.
According to information so far, the two heads of delegations, US Vice President JD Vance and the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf, will not travel to Pakistan.
In a post on the X platform, the Iranian Foreign Minister himself stated that he has embarked on a tour of visits to Pakistan, Oman, and Russia, with the aim of coordinating with partners on bilateral issues and holding consultations on regional developments.
Islamabad was the site of the first talks last week between the US and Iran to end the conflict, talks which did not yield any results.
