As the deadline set by the Constitutional Court for the constitution of the Kosovo Assembly is approaching expiration, political pressure has increased, with the Democratic League of Kosovo and the Alliance for the Future of Kosovo demanding the continuation of the constitutive session by tonight, while the acting Prime Minister and leader of the Vetëvendosje Movement, Albin Kurti, has made a new offer to the Democratic Party of Kosovo.
The LDK has demanded that the constitutive session continue tonight, warning that failure to respect the Constitutional Court's deadline could plunge the country into a situation of constitutional uncertainty and lack of institutional legitimacy. According to the party, the constitution of the Assembly within the deadline is a constitutional obligation and the failure to continue the session prevents the deputies from exercising their mandate.
The Alliance for the Future of Kosovo has also expressed itself in the same vein. The head of the AAK Parliamentary Group, Besnik Tahiri, announced that, in coordination with other parliamentary groups, an extraordinary session has been requested tonight at 10:30 PM, with the aim of completing the constitution process before the deadline expires.
Meanwhile, Albin Kurti has written a letter to PDK leader Bedri Hamza, inviting him again for a meeting and proposing a political compromise. Kurti said that, although he respects PDK's decision to remain in opposition, the constitution of the Assembly and the election of the president require cooperation between the parties.
In his letter, he offered a rotation between the positions of Speaker of the Assembly and Deputy Speaker, proposing that PDK take over the leadership of the Assembly in exchange for participating in the process of electing the new president, to avoid early elections.
However, Bedri Hamza rejected the offer, reiterating that PDK will exercise its role in opposition due to programmatic and conceptual differences with the Vetëvendosje Movement.
Under these circumstances, it remains to be seen whether during the remaining hours there will be a political agreement that will pave the way for the constitution of the Assembly, or whether Kosovo will face a new institutional crisis.
