Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić has announced that he will write to NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding the issue of opening the main bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica.
Vučić has opposed the opening of the bridge to vehicles, claiming that decisions are being made without consulting the mayor of North Mitrovica, Milan Radojević. He has also criticized the KFOR commander and said he expects Rutte to consider his request.
"I will write to Mark Rutte today. I hope he will respond to me and accept my request not to do this," Vucic declared.
Meanwhile, the European Commission has called for effective coordination and meaningful consultations between the affected municipalities and Kosovo's central institutions on opening the bridge to vehicles.
The main bridge over the Ibar River, which connects South Mitrovica with North Mitrovica, has been one of the most sensitive points of tension between the Albanian and Serbian communities in Kosovo for years.
