Spectacular theft at Vienna museum, necklace with 673 diamonds stolen

A rare and valuable necklace has been stolen from the Museum of Applied Arts in Vienna during a jewelry exhibition. Austrian police have launched an investigation, but the perpetrators have not yet been identified.

Two unidentified individuals broke the display case inside the museum during visiting hours, took the necklace, and fled the scene. According to police, no one was injured during the robbery.

The museum has not officially announced what the stolen object is, but information on its official website suggests that it could be an extraordinary royal necklace, consisting of 673 diamonds, with a total weight of more than 200 carats.

The necklace is associated with Queen Nazli of Egypt, who wore it in 1939, during the wedding of her daughter Fawzia to the then Iranian crown prince, Mohammad Reza Pahlavi, who later became the Shah of Iran.

The object was part of the "Glanzstücke" exhibition, which featured rare and historically significant jewelry.

Austrian authorities are analyzing security camera footage and evidence collected at the scene to identify the two perpetrators and determine their escape route.
