Everything has been made official for the 2027 edition of the Spanish Super Cup, which this time will be held in Istanbul, Turkey. The tournament will bring together four of the biggest clubs in Spanish football: Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad.
The RFEF has finalized the agreement with the Turkish authorities, while the president of the Spanish federation, Rafael Louzan, attended the official signing ceremony at the headquarters of the Turkish Football Federation on Thursday. The event was also attended by the Turkish ministers of Sports and Culture and Tourism, as well as representatives of sports institutions from Turkey and Saudi Arabia.
Istanbul was selected after an evaluation process in which the RFEF, in collaboration with the company SELA, reviewed seven candidacies from different countries. Saudi Arabia, which has been the usual home of the Super Cup since 2020, will not host the tournament in 2027 due to a clash in the calendar with the Asian Cup. The tournament will return to Saudi Arabia in 2028.
The next edition will be a clash between Barcelona, Real Madrid, Atletico Madrid and Real Sociedad. Barcelona, the 2026 Super Cup champions, will be looking to defend the trophy in Turkey.
The first semi-final match will be played on 2 February 2027 and will pit Barcelona against Atlético Madrid. The match will take place at Fenerbahçe's stadium, "Chobani Stadium Fenerbahçe Şukru Saracoglu Sports Complex", at 20:00 Spanish time, or 22:00 Istanbul local time.
The following day, on February 3, Real Sociedad will face Real Madrid at the “Tupras Stadium”, Besiktas’ home ground. This match will also kick off at 20:00 Spanish time.
The final will take place on February 6 at the Ali Sami Yen Sports Complex RAMS Park, the home stadium of Galatasaray. The arena has a capacity of more than 53,000 spectators and will be the stage where the winner of the 2027 Spanish Super Cup will be crowned.
40 million euros for the four clubs
In addition to the trophy, participation in the Super Cup also brings a significant financial benefit. According to the agreement reported by AS, the four participating clubs have agreed to share 40 million euros in revenue from participating in the tournament.
The RFEF emphasizes that the income generated by organizing the Super Cup outside of Spain is channeled directly to support Spanish football. According to the federation, the benefits go to almost 1,000 clubs in all categories, both in men's and women's football.
The Spanish Super Cup is already one of the important events of the international football calendar and the 2027 edition is expected to be broadcast in more than 150 countries around the world. For Istanbul, hosting the tournament also represents an opportunity to promote the city as a destination for major international sporting events.
