At the ceremony organized by the Albanian Football Federation to close the year, the opportunity was not missed to once again create unnecessary division and tension within the ranks of the national team. It is about the awarding of awards, which theoretically should have been decided by vote, but which in the end, due to a human error, led to the actual disqualification of a national team player.
VNA has learned that in the voting for the "Albanian National Player of the Year", which was officially won by captain Berat Gjimshiti, the final result of the leaders was equal: 8 votes for Berat Gjimshiti and 8 votes for Myrto Uzuni. However, it is said in the corridors that there was an "internal" suggestion that the winner, for the second year in a row, should be Gjimshiti.
This has greatly angered Uzun, who has always been reserved and unwilling to speak in public. He complained within the national team and, fearing that this would be discovered, the organizers have apologized.
Does Gjimshiti deserve to be declared player of the year? Without a doubt, yes. But the problem lies in the injustice of determining a winner without a draw and without re-voting, when the votes are the same. Another problem is the fact that the Albanian Football Association organizes such votes where the red and black footballers themselves vote to choose their friend as player of the year, creating completely unnecessary tension before the decisive matches of the World Cup "play off".
And worse yet, this tension is seen as a division between the red and blacks from Albania and those from Kosovo. This is very dangerous in a group that already has some divisions.
