
Kosovar karateka, Islam Selmani, has been declared world runner-up in the up to 60 kilogram category, during the World Karate Championships being held in Cairo.
In the grand final, Selmani faced Turkey's Eray Samdan, one of the strongest names in international karate. After a tough and intense duel, he ranked second in the world, winning the silver medal.
The day before, Selmani had excelled in the semifinals, where he secured a dominant 9:1 victory over Uzbek karateka, Mekhriddin Turakhonov.
With this success, Selmani becomes the first Kosovar karateka to win a silver medal at a World Championship, marking one of the greatest achievements in the history of Kosovar sports.
