Talks between the United States and Iran continue, as Washington claims that Tehran is facing serious consequences following the recent escalation of tensions between the two countries.
White House spokeswoman Caroline Leavitt said Iran is continuing dialogue with the US administration and that, according to her, Tehran is interested in reaching an agreement due to the "devastating blows" it has suffered.
"The reason for the recent attacks is that Iran has violated the Memorandum of Understanding that we had reached with them," Leavitt said, referring to US military actions.
It also claimed that Iran has attacked merchant ships in the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most important maritime corridors for energy transport.
However, the White House spokeswoman stressed that Washington remains open to a diplomatic solution.
"The president is always open to diplomacy," Leavitt said, without providing further details on the progress of the negotiations or the possibility of a new agreement between the two countries.
Tensions between the US and Iran have risen sharply in recent days, as both sides have exchanged accusations and military actions in one of the most strategic areas of the Middle East.
