European Union Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos has reacted again to Serbian Minister Snezhana Paunovic's statement about "ethnic cleansing" in Kosovo, describing it as unacceptable for an official of a candidate country for EU membership.
During her speech to the Special Committee for the Safeguarding of European Democracy in the European Parliament, Kos expressed surprise that Paunović continues to hold the position of minister after the statements made publicly.
"It was shocking to hear something like this in 2026. I won't even repeat what she said. I can't imagine that a minister, after such a public statement, can continue to exercise her duty," Kos declared.
The European Commissioner called on politicians in candidate countries for membership in the European Union to understand the responsibility that public statements carry and the consequences they can bring.
Her reaction comes after statements by Serbian Minister Paunovic, which caused strong reactions in Kosovo, Serbia and the international arena.
