The Serbian Border Police Directorate has announced that entry and exit for heavy vehicles are currently blocked at 20 border crossings with countries in the European Union and the region.
According to the official announcement, the border crossings with Croatia are: Batrovci, Šid, Bogojevo, Baçka Palanka, Bezdan and Neshtin; with Hungary: Horgoš, Kelebia and Baçki Breg; with Romania: Gjerdap, Srpska Crnja, Vatin and Kalugjerovo; with Bulgaria: Vërshka Çuka, Gradina, Strezimirovci, Ribarci and Mokranje; and with North Macedonia: Preševo and Prohor Pčinski.
The blockade of border crossings with European Union countries began on January 26, following protests by truck drivers from Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro and North Macedonia. The drivers are opposed to tougher entry procedures into the Schengen Area, which they say have significantly shortened the permitted length of stay in EU countries.
Meanwhile, the Investment Forum of the Western Balkans Six Chambers of Commerce, which includes the economic chambers of Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, North Macedonia, Montenegro and Serbia, sent a joint appeal to the European Commission on January 26, requesting an urgent solution to the problems facing international transport drivers.
