A Croatian pilot and his girlfriend, a Serb from Kosovo, have been sentenced to one month in pretrial detention on suspicion of espionage, the Split District Court has ruled.
They were remanded in custody due to the possibility of influencing witnesses and the risk of destroying evidence, the court's decision states. The Serbian suspect was also remanded in custody due to the risk of flight since she is a foreign citizen in Croatia, Croatian media outlet Index reported.
Both were interviewed on Wednesday, while their case is being investigated by police and Europol.
The suspicions are that the Croatian pilot, while also serving in KFOR, provided information on the movements of KFOR troops to his Serbian girlfriend, who then provided it to the Serbian List.
According to "Index", the suspect provided his partner with information about the movements of Serbs in northern Kosovo from the end of 2022 until this year, as well as about the movements of KFOR troops.
Among other things, investigators suspect that he revealed to her important information regarding Zubin-Potok, one of the problematic municipalities between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians in the north.
The two are also accused of exchanging information regarding the transportation of arrested Serb Dejan Pantić, a former Kosovo police officer, who is accused of participating in the attacks on the CEC offices in North Mitrovica.
