The Special Prosecution Office announced that a person suspected of participating in the attack on KFOR members and Kosovo Police in Zvecan has been detained.
LM, according to the announcement, was sent to police custody for 48 hours after being detained in Zvecan, a municipality in northern Kosovo, inhabited by a Serb majority.
"LM is suspected of the following criminal offenses: conspiracy to commit unconstitutional activities, endangering persons under international protection, participation in a crowd that commits a criminal offense and hooliganism, as well as assault on an official person," the Kosovo Special Prosecution Office said.
The prosecution also announced that the detainee's house was raided and "material evidence proving the suspect's incriminating actions" was found there.
On May 29, 2023, 93 members of the NATO peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, KFOR, were injured – some of them seriously – after clashes with Serbian protesters. There were also injuries on the protesters' side in this clash.
The violence in Zvecan erupted after local Serbs opposed the entry of new Albanian mayors into municipal buildings in Zvecan, Leposavić and Zubin Potok – municipalities in northern Kosovo inhabited by a Serb majority, following local elections held earlier that year that were boycotted by Serbs.
So far, two people have been sentenced to prison for violence against KFOR, while several other people have also been sentenced and have reached plea agreements with the prosecution.
