Kosovo citizens have completed the voting process in the local elections today, as all polling stations across the country closed at 7:00 p.m. The turnout, according to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, was satisfactory and the process was generally peaceful.
Immediately after the polls closed, Kosovo media published the first exit polls, which provide an initial overview of the results in some of the country's main municipalities.
Pristina – According to exit polls, Përparim Rama from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) is leading in the capital with 35.82% of the vote. However, according to initial projections, Pristina is expected to go to a runoff, as no candidate has crossed the threshold for victory in the first round.
Mitrovica – According to preliminary results, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK) is in the lead and is expected to maintain its lead in this municipality.
Podujeva – The race is close between the candidates of Vetëvendosje (VV) and LDK, and a runoff is also expected.
Peja and Gjilan – Both of these municipalities, according to exit polls, are expected to go to the second round of elections, due to very close races between the main political entities.
The vote counting process will begin immediately after the ballot boxes are closed, while the official results are expected to be published by the CEC in the coming hours.
